Reducing cost and risk

Defence departments are always the first to develop new aerospace capabilities. Recently published defence reviews show the priority requirements to reduce costs, increase effectiveness and reduce risks to warfighters. The use of autonomous uncrewed systems on land, at sea and in the air has become the principal technological frontier. Within airpower, this has been advanced to a high degree with long-range runway-dependent Fixed Wing UAS.

However, for the runway-independent Vertical Take Off & Landing air systems, there is still an array of different solutions in development for the heavier-lift, long-range mission sets. Certo’s coaxial configuration is the VTOL solution now coming to the fore in the current wave of military trials. Certo has been collaborating actively on development programmes with the world’s best defence departments since 2015.

Defence is not just a customer.
It is our leading technology development partner.

Key User Requirements

Long range, heavy lift mission sets

For the runway-independent Vertical Take Off & Landing UAS, there is an array of different military roles under development. Certo’s coaxial configuration is modular and scaleable.

Reducing cost and increasing combat mass

90% cheaper than a similar crewed solution, allowing customers to increase combat mass and effectiveness.

Efficient and rugged for contested environments

CAPSTONE UAV has been designed with speed, efficiency and ruggedness in mind. Field-fixable, basic to maintain and operate and resilient to GPS denial.

Sovereign UK capability

ISR/Strike

A maximum payload of 300kg demonstrates an ability to comfortably carry 3x Hellfire or Brimstone missiles, in addition to an ISR/EW suite with no risk to a human pilot.

Air Mobile Generator

Using an internal combustion engine powered by either gasoline or heavy fuels allows the aircraft to operate as a mobile generator unit in forward operations – up to 20kW of electrical power delivered to contested areas where road transport is impossible.

Military Logistics

Options for several payload delivery systems including standard half-height JMIC containers, Skylift TEUCAN and Aether Aerospace winched payload delivery system, with a versatile platform for future integration to other systems.

CASEVAC

When the risk to human lives is too great, a CAPSTONE UAV can be sent into contested areas to rescue and return injured personnel.
